Election history: Tim LeGeyt won an open seat in 2008, succeeding three-term Republican Kevin Witkos, who ran for the state Senate. The Democrat was cross-endorsed by the Working Families Party.

Noted: A teacher in Canton since 1977, LeGeyt entered elective politics in 2005, winning a seat on the Board of Selectman. After earning a law degree in 1988, he became a director and secretary of a local bank, the Collinsville Savings Society.
