Floren won an open seat in 2000, succeeding Republican Janet K. Lockton. She won re-election in 2010 by a 2-to-1 margin.
Floren, a former ranking member of the Government Administration and Elections Committee, was the only House Republican to vote in 2009 for same-day voter registration.
Her district is one of the wealthiest in the United States, and the Florens seem to fit in. Their family foundation gave $10 million to Dartmouth College in 2006 to construct an athletic facility, the Floren Varsity House.
They live in Greenwich.
Floren reported no outside income. Her husband, Douglas C. Floren, is the co-founder and managing partner of DCF Capital, a hedge fund. They own homes in Greenwich and Steamboat Springs, Colo.She reported several securities valued in excess of $5,000 held by her and her husband. They have no debts exceeding $10,000. A note on financial disclosure: Every spring, officials are required to disclose the ownership of real estate, the source of any income exceeding $1,000 in the previous calendar year and securities worth more than $5,000. They also are required to file an addendum in which they report any debt of more than $10,000; this may by law be kept confidential.
