Background

Talk of DeFronzo's taking a place in Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's administration began circulating right after the election. DeFronzo helped lead a policy team for Malloy during the campaign, cementing his relationship with the new governor and making him an obvious choice for months for an agency-level appointment.

DeFronzo was a state legislator for a decade prior to his appointment and mayor of New Britain from 1989 to 1993. He also was employed at the state Department of Labor and Office of Policy and Management.

In 2005, DeFronzo was the at the center of negotiations that led to the passage of campaign finance reforms that banned contributions from lobbyists and state contractors and created a system of publicly financing campaigns.

He is married and the father of two.

Financial Disclosure

DeFronzo reported income from Goodwin College, where he was adjunct faculty, a legislative salary and a pension from the state. He collected rent on a property in Stuart, Fla.. His wife, Diane DeFronzo, was employed by the Hospital of Central Connecticut.They own two houses in New Britain and the Florida property. DeFronzo owned mutual funds and stock in the Bank of America and NSTAR.
