Nardello lost by nearly 1,000 votes to seven-term Republican David O. Thorp in 1992. After his retirement, Nardello won the open seat by 167 votes in 1994 and has been re-elected by comfortable margins. In 2010, she won 53 percent of the vote against Republican challenger Katheryn E. Brown.
Nardello took over in 2009 as co-chair of the Energy and Technology Committee, placing her at the center of the legislature's efforts to control utility costs. Her bill to create a state power authority passed the House, 96-45, but died on the Senate calendar.
Nardello was born in Pontelandolfo, Italy. She resides in Prospect.
