Abercrombie was elected in March 2005, winning a special election by 124 votes to succeed Democrat Jim Abrams, who had resigned. In 2010, she ran unopposed.
Abercrombie was a co-sponsor of a law passed in 2009 that requires insurers to expand coverage for autism spectrum disorders. She has said she will introduce legislation in the 2011 session to address cyberbullying.
Abercrombie is an assistant majority whip and vice chair of the appropriations committee.
She and her husband live in Meriden.
