Election History

Flexer won an open seat in 2008, succeeding Republican Michael A. Caron, a legislator since 1991. She was re-elected by more than 1,700 votes over GOP challenger Michael Struzik in 2010.

Background

Flexer joined the Killingly Democratic town committee at age 18 and was elected its chair at 23. She interrupted her graduate studies at the University of Connecticut to run for the legislature, where she had been an aide to Senate President Pro Tem Donald E. Williams Jr. This past year Flexer chaired a task force that proposed and won passage for several new measures designed to protect victims of domestic violence.
